Fantasia's Return To American Idol

Fantasia Barrino, who won American Idol Season 3, returned to the show last night to perform her song "Bore Me."

I can't say enough about her showmanship - girl has energy and is a natural performer!  And she looks better than ever!  And I can't say how much more I like this song than that radio hit she put out after winning AI.   *shudder*

But I'm left wondering yet again how she won in the first place.  Cause she can't sing.  Really, she can't.  And sometimes putting on a great performance is enough, but I thought that AI was supposed to be about actual ability?  I dunno.   I'll say this though, I like her a whole lot more than I like either of the Davids, and one of them is going to win soon.

American Idol Kelly Clarkson Sings For The Pope

Kelly Clarkson performed for Pope Benedict XVI yesterday in New York.

The Pope looked like he was enjoying her rendition of "Ave Maria."  But Kelly looked - and sounded - a little out of her element during her number.  I can chalk her stiffness up to nervousness - anyone would have the jitters performing at what amounts to a state event.  But her voice is a pop voice, not a classical voice.  I'm now wondering how she was selected to participate.  Is she Catholic?

What do you think of Kelly's performance?

David Hernandez Can't Wait To Eat Ramen

Photobucket

We all know by now that David Hernandez was voted off American Idol on Wednesday night.

And good riddance to him, after he effed up a great Beatles song so badly.  Well, they all effed up the Beatles, but he did a particularly heinous job.  (In fact, I just don't think that an R&B singing style goes with the Beatles at all, but I'll admit that I've never heard a Beatles cover that even came close to touching the original.   I'm a purist, what can I say.  I don't like chocolate in my peanut butter!) And I was kind of rooting for him in a way, too, because I just don't think it's that big a deal that he was a gay stripper.

What we, or at least I, didn't know is what he was most looking forward to now that he's going home:

"I am looking forward to eating pork flavored ramen noodles and taking a deep, deep.  breath away from the paparazzi."

Ramen first, break from the paparazzi second.  Hmmm. A boy after my own heart.  Maybe he has some redeeming qualities after all.
