A-Rod Settles His Divorce

660d96cd3dd44f4daac028b21ce3c709_2

Well, that was fast.  According to People, Alex and Cynthia Rodriguez have settled their acrimonious divorce.    Their attorneys issued this joint statement:

"Cynthia and Alex Rodriguez have amicably resolved their dissolution of marriage proceedings...They deliberately engaged in a private negotiation. During the negotiations and resolution all decisions were made with the best interests of their children as the paramount concern."

A-Rod had maintained that the terms of their  pre-nup should govern their divorce, while Cynthia asked for a cut of his earnings during their divorce as well as one of their properties valued at $12M.  The final terms of their settlement were not revealed.

Which tells me that he probably gave her whatever she wanted.  Hope you're happy, Cynthia!

Sarah McLachlan & Ashwin Sood: Fini!

Sarahmclachlan

Sarah McLachlan
has announced that she and Ashwin Sood, her husband of 11 years, are divorcing.  Calling the break up "pretty gross," she commented:

"I haven't said anything about it because I've been terrified," she said. "But I figure ... there's no good time to say it, so I just said it."

Sood is the drummer in her band.     They have two daughters, India Ann Sushil (6) and Taja Summer (1).

I wonder if they will continue working together now, or if she's kicking him out of the band?

Liv Tyler Feels "Like A Crab Without A Shell"

Live_tyler240

In this month's Harper's Bazaar, actress Liv Tyler opens up on her divorce from British musician Royston Langdon.

"For the first time in my life, it's so much harder for me to get up and brush [off] my knees...I am feeling the pain and the loss of everything... [but] I am trying to just let myself feel it," she says. "I think you have to mourn and you have to feel that pain."

She says her outwardly serene nature should not fool anyone.

"I don't feel calm and collected. I feel neurotic, like Woody Allen," says Tyler, 31. "I'm a Cancer and sometimes I just feel like a crab without a shell."

No one feels calm and collected when going through a divorce.  It sucks!  Poor thing sounds so sad.  Take care, Liv!

Donnie Wahlberg and Kim Fey: Fini!

Ph2008081801650

Donnie Wahlberg and his wife Kim Fey filed divorce petitions last week in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, citing irreconcilable differences.

The couple married in 1999 and have been separated for several months.  They have two sons, Xavier (15) and Elijah (7).  Fey is asking for sole custody of the boys with visitation to Walhberg, spousal support, and attorneys' fees.

I guess Donnie just doesn't have "the right stuff"...

Paul McCartney Writes 'Astonishing' Song For Heather Mills

Paulmccartney4pr

Paul McCartney showed amazing restraint during his divorce from Heather Mills.  While she was acting like a syphilitic Tasmanian devil on crank, he was quietly agreeing to give her millions and millions of dollars, plus money to take care of their daughter.  Now nearly five months later, he's releasing a song memorializing their relationship and marriage.

The song "My Soul" is a collaboration with Asian-influenced electronic music guru Nitin Sawhney.  The track will appear on Sawhney's new album London Undersound in October.  The Daily Mail breaks down the lyrics and their meaning here:

A friend of Paul's shared:

"What the song shows is that rather than feeling embittered towards Heather, Paul just feels sorry for her. He feels sorry that she was never able to tell him the full truth about her past life. He feels that their romance happened so fast and so publicly that a lot never really got said."

Yeah... I guess there really isn't a good time to tell your incredibly famous, well-loved by the public, filthy stinking rich new boyfriend that you were a porn star in your past life, huh?    But look:  Paul may be a pretty cheesy solo songwriter (RIP John), but this sure is a classier way to deal with your feelings than dumping water on folks.

Hulk Hogan Wishes He Wasn't Getting Divorced

Hulkhogan

Hulk Hogan doesn't seem like the kind of guy you'd call a softie by any means, but he's expressing some rather tender feelings about the end of his 24-year marriage with wife Linda Bollea.  He recently opened up to Maria Menounos about the increasingly bitter situation:

“As crazy as that sounds to say, I wish I was still with my wife.”

When asked if he knew they were heading for divorce, Hogan said:

“Yeah, well you know, we’d had problems over the last 10 years but, you know, I thought that when you put your hand on the Bible, you know, until death do us part and for better or worse, I thought people really meant that when they said it,” he admitted.

No doubt it's good to take your wedding vows seriously, but Hulk?  Did you forget about the "forsaking all others" part when you were boinking your daughter Brooke's friend Christiane Plante

A-Rod Files Response to Divorce, Wants To Keep All His Money

Arodalexrodriguezbaseballmlbyankees

Alex Rodriguez has filed paperwork in response to his wife Cynthia's petition for divorce.    This oughta be good, right?

A-Rod admits the marriage is "irretrievably broken." But he points out that Florida is a "no fault state" and chastises his estranged wife, Cynthia Rodriguez, for mentioning "immaterial and impertinent" issues like his alleged "extra marital affairs and other marital misconduct."

(By "marital misconduct" you mean late night visits with Madonna, right?)

Now, given that Alex can hardly deny some of the stuff he's done, you'd think he would be classy enough to just give Cynthia whatever she wants and keep it quiet, right?   Hell no!  This is A-Rod!  Despite making more money than any other baseball player in the Major League, he "argues that the divorce settlement should be determined by their prenup, which Cynthia signed a month before their 2002 wedding."  Cynthia is asking to keep their $12M mansion in Florida and a cut of the earnings he made during their marriage.

Certainly she is entitled to child support even if the prenup prevents her from personally benefiting from his earnings, so hopefully the court will be fair with her.  Me, I'm getting a box of popcorn and getting comfortable because this promises to be a good show.

Balthazar and Rosetta Getty: Fini!

Bgetty_320x240

We knew this was coming as soon as Sienna Miller started sniffing around him - Balthazar Getty has announced that he and his wife Rosetta have split.

'The breakdown of a marriage is a very difficult and painful experience especially when children are involved.  In light of the fact that many pictures have surfaced in print and on the internet which has caused myself and my family great embarrassment, I felt it necessary to at least acknowledge publicly that, yes indeed, my wife and I have separated and I will not be commenting any further.'

He sounds a bit surprised, doesn't he?  Like he didn't think that snogging a topless chick had the potential to ruin his marriage.

Brinkley-Cook Divorce Settlement

Brinkley

Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook have ended their divorce proceedings with a truly monstrous settlement.

Brinkley's attorney Robert Cohen announced the details of the agreement today.

The hard-fought deal's main sticking point - custody of the couple's two children, Jack, 10, and Sailor, 13 - was resolved with Brinkley getting sole custody and final decision-making power over the children.

Cook is allowed visitation and will be consulted regarding decisions about the children.

Brinkley retained ownership of all real estate holdings and her boat Sweet Freedom. She agreed to pay Cook a flat amount of $2.1 million, mainly to cover his legal costs. The rest of the terms remain confidential, the pairs' attorneys said.

The two have dragged each other through the mud for the last several days in proceedings open to the public.  The testimony included allegations of Cook's abuse, his $3,000/month porn habit, and a teenage assistant paid six figures to stay silent about their affair.  It culminated in yesterday's testimony
by a court-appointed psychiatrist, who "deemed Cook a self-obsessed egomaniac, and said Brinkley should have primary custody of the children."

Both Cook and Brinkley were happy with the settlement.

"It's to me a very bittersweet moment because it really is the death of a marriage," Brinkley said later, outside the courtroom. "I'm very pleased with the results today. I was here fighting for custody."

"It's everything I asked for," Cook said as he walked quickly away from the building.

We stopped reporting on this case because it was just getting too, TOO ugly.  And this outcome really does make me feel vaguely ill.  Brinkley has essentially purchased sole custody of her children from her ex-husband.  Egomaniac or not, that's gross.  I wonder how the kids feel knowing that they are worth exactly $2.1M to their dad?
