The Cult Honored In Las Vegas

Photobucket

Am I ever on a 1980s music roll here or what?  One of my favorite bands EVER, The Cult, now have a whole display case dedicated to their memorabilia at the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas.

Is this a big deal?  I'm not sure.  I mean a lot of bands have their stuff hung up on the walls of the Hard Rock.  But I'm pleased to see a very deserving band honored.   I wore out my cassette tape of Love back in the day, listening to it over and over until I think my mom wanted to throw it out the window.  And you know it was all about 'She Sells Sanctuary.'  Check it out:

Miley Cyrus' New Song - '7 Things'

Miley Cyrus' new track, '7 Things,' has been released.  This is the first single off her upcoming album.  In the song she talks about the things she hates about her ex-boyfriend.  Ahhh, teenage angst.  So much easier to deal with than people bashing you for taking topless pictures.  Oh yeah, she also says the things she likes too, so it's balanced and keeps Disney happy.

Curious about the lyrics?  Here they are.

7 Things

I probably shouldn't say this
But at times I get so scared
When I think about the previous
Relationship we shared

It was awesome but we lost it
It's not possible for me, not to care
And now we're standing in the rain
But nothing's ever gonna change until you hear, my dear

The 7 things I hate about you
The 7 things I hate about you, oh you
You're vain, your games, you're insecure
You love me, you like her
You make me laugh, you make me cry
I don't know which side to buy
Your friends, they're jerks
When you act like them, just know it hurts
I wanna be with the one I know
And the 7th thing I hate the most that you do
You make me love you

It's awkward and it's silent
As I wait for you to say
What I need to hear now
Your sincere apology
When you mean it, I'll believe it
If you text it, I'll delete it
Let's be clear
Oh I'm not coming back
You're taking 7 steps here

The 7 things I hate about you
You're vain, your games, you're insecure
You love me, you like her
You make me laugh, you make me cry
I don't know which side to buy
Your friends, they're jerks
When you act like them, just know it hurts
I wanna be with the one I know
And the 7th thing I hate the most that you do
You make me love you

And compared to all the great things
That would take too long to write
I probably should mention
The 7 that I like

The 7 things I like about you
Your hair, your eyes, your old Levi's
When we kiss I'm hypnotized
You make me laugh, you make me cry
But I guess that's both I'll have to buy
Your hands in mine
When we're intertwined, everything's alright
I wanna be with the one I know
And the 7th thing I like most that you do
You make me love you
You do

'Go Speed Racer, Go!' Video Preview

I may be setting myself up for disappointment, but I am ridiculously excited about the new Speed Racer movie.  That's why I'm so very pleased, dear readers, to bring you a preview of the music video for the movie's theme song.  I thought I would hate it, but I am pretty pleased with it.  Hopefully the movie won't suck!

Beyonce Ready To Retire?!

Photobucket

The New York Daily News says that Beyonce's cousin Angelica told them (wait... are we in junior high here??) that Beyonce is retiring after she completes her next album.

Beyonce will "spend her days scouting talent for new hubby Jay-Z's upcoming label, The Carter Music Group."

Mmmmhmmmm.  How long did Jay's "retirement" last?  Three years?  I always thought that was one big publicity stunt anyway.  Even if she does quote unquote retire, it won't last long.  Perhaps long enough to raise some little ones up for a few years.  I predict Beyonce will be out there shakin' it until she's in her 60s like Tina Turner!

Guess Who Was On Jay Leno Recently?

Photobucket

Peter FRAMPTON??   Some of you are so young you probably don't remember him, but he was the shiznit back in the day.  When he looked like this:

Photobucket

Please know the only reason I posted this is that a Peter Frampton photo is just too random not to note it.  Let's see if I can come up with a better reason... uhh.... *googles*  oh!  Peter's a birthday boy this month, on the 22nd.  Happy early birthday!

You Go Girl: Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey

Big ups to Mariah Carey!  No doubt she's a diva, but we're going to have to start calling her The Queen now, 'cause she just beat The King's record!

Her latest single, "Touch My Body"  has hit number one on the  Billboard 100.  This is her 18th number one single.  She was previously tied with Elvis Presley at 17.  Next to beat:  The Beatles, who have 20 number ones.

NME.com shares:

"I really can never put myself in the category of people who have not only revolutionized music but also changed the world," Carey told the Associated Press. "That's a completely different era and time... I'm just feeling really happy and grateful."

Modest Mimi told Allure this month that she's "always had low self-esteem."  This new achievement should be just the boost she needs to build that confidence!

New Album From Mint Condition!

Photobucket

C'mon....I know I'm pretty old school, but I also know I'm not the only one who jammed to Mint Condition back in the day.  What R&B fan back in the early 1990s didn't love "Pretty Brown Eyes (Breakin' My Heart)"?

OK, maybe there was one or two of you, but for the rest of us.... Mint Condition is releasing its first album in three years!  The album is called eLife and is on their own label, CagedBird Records.   It'll be out on May 6th.

What's the secret to their longevity?  Frontman Stokley Williams said:

"Our sound is an extension of the kind of music we love and Mint Condition is always going to be relevant because we don't follow trends, we believe in the integrity of our music and how it makes our fans feel."

Well amen to that!  How many other bands and performers can honestly say that?

While we wait for the album release, here's the video for their big hit song to tide you over.  Enjoy!

Please, Heidi - NO MORE!

Photobucket

Despite lukewarm to outright hostile reviews of her single/video "Higher," Heidi Montag has boldly released another song, entitled "No More."

That's what the world said when Heidi released her first song, of course, but did she listen?  No.  She was too busy staging a photoshoot crying.

Take a listen here, dear readers - if you dare.  Don't say we didn't warn you.

"The Fifth Beatle" Neil Aspinall Dies

Photobucket

We are so so so so so sad to report this news.

Neil Aspinall, road manager, personal assistant, business manager and close friend of The Beatles, died yesterday.   He was 66 years old.

Aspinall had been treated for lung cancer at Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York, where Paul McCartney was said to have made a special trip to visit him before his death.

Aspinall met Paul McCartney and George Harrison when they attended grammar school in Liverpool together, and was the last of the Beatles' hometown inner circle to still be employed by them.   He headed Apple Corps Ltd., the corporation formed to handle the Beatles' business affairs, from its founding in 1968 until last year when he stepped down.   He was executive producer of the hugely successful 1995 "Beatles Anthology" album, which he had begun compiling in 1971, shortly following the band's breakup.  He also made major contributions to their other recent successes, including the "Beatles One" album, the "Live At the BBC Collection," and the recent Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil production "Love."

Drummer Ringo Starr said:

"I've known Neil many years and he was a good friend. We were blessed to have him in our lives and he will be missed."

The band remembered Aspinall In a joint statement issued today by McCartney, Starr, Olivia Harrison (George Harrison's widow), Yoko Ono (John Lennon's widow), and Apple Corps:

"As a loyal friend, confidant and chief executive, Neil's trusting stewardship and guidance has left a far-reaching legacy for generations to come."

Aspinall is survived by his wife Suzy and five children. He is pictured here with Paul McCartney in 1969.

Clay Aiken=Barry Manilow's Love Child?

Photobucket

Clay Aiken's new album has been released.  It's called "On My Way Here."   We have a few suggestions for how to finish that sentence fragment.

On my way here...

....I decided that I would buy out Sephora.

....I was attacked by cosmetology school dropout.

....I went to the brow bar and got a touch-up.

....I stopped in the 1980s and borrowed Bryan Adams' hair.

I'm not even going to start ragging about how gay he is or isn't, that's for him to reveal if, when and how he chooses to.   I'll leave Clay to his own business and just suggest this:  if anyone out there happens to be casting for a Barry Manilow biopic, you need look no further than this album cover for your star.
